I CANNOT believe it's already June! May was a complete tidal wave of things happening and being busy. I also got a TON of writing done and I can't wait to share all the new stuff with you! Stay tuned, cause next week I'll be posting all about the books I plan on releasing this year!
Let's see what goals I have in store for myself this month as well as how I did in May.
1. Start outlining the "S.S." story.
If you're a member of the Nikki Rae Fans group on Facebook, you know what story this is. If you're not, why don't you join!
2. Get things ready for Camp NaNo.
Every November, there is a thing called NaNoWriMo in which writers try to write an entire rough draft in a month. They also have a thing called Camp NaNo that takes place in July, and I've never been around to do it. This year, it looks like I'll be able to participate so I want to make sure I have everything ready to go so I can get it done.
3. Start outlining the third Shadow & Ink Book.
More on this next week. ;)
4. Finish editing Secret Sci-fi Story.
I'm about halfway done with this and after not looking at the book for over a month, I remember why I fell in love with it.
5. Practice query letters.
I've already got an idea of what I want it to look like. I just have to find some quiet time where I can concentrate and make people believe my book is worth reading.
6. Research book agents.
An agent is who you send the query letter to. They then see if they want to take you on as a client and then shop your manuscript to publishing houses. It's daunting. Kind like going on a blind date except instead of wondering if they're gonna pay for dinner you're wondering if they're gonna like your book.
7. "Hire" assistants.
I've actually already done this. So far, I have three assistants who are willing to help me promote, gather reviews for books, and so forth in exchange for swag and books. They are lovely people and I can't wait to work with all of them. If you're interested in participating in this experiment of mine, please, please email me (NikkiRaeAuthor@gmail.com).
8. Wake up earlier and get more done each day.
I'm trying so hard to do this but I really want to buckle down and start waking up earlier more often. Whenever I do manage to do this, I get everything done and I have more time for myself.
9. Have a board game night.
I'm lame and instead of going out drinking I like playing Balderdash or Trivial Pursuit. Whatevs.
10. Read before bed more often.
Self-explanatory. Maybe I'll actually get around to it this month.
11. Move Neil to the house where I am currently living.
Neil has been at my old house, where I regularly go to visit and feed him. I just generally miss having him around and I want him with me.
12. Consistently take my vitamin D.
I had to buy gummy vitamins so I would remember to take them. Hopefully the promise of a candy-like substance in the morning will work better than the boring old pills.
13. Stop talking/thinking negatively about myself.
Self-esteem is something I've been struggling with over the last year or so. I gained over 40 pounds on the last medication I was on and it messed up my metabolism so badly that it was impossible to lose weight while still taking it. Now that I'm working out and eating healthier, I am slowly (very, very slowly) losing weight and toning up. Still, it's hard not to be negative about my body image when the image in the mirror doesn't fit how I'm used to seeing myself. I'm going to make a more conscious effort to stop the negative thoughts before I give them any power over me.
14. Finish setting up my story bullet journal.
Nearly done with this. Just need to make it pretty. :)
15. Start recording my dreams more.
I only do this once in a while, when my dreams are super strange, but I would like to do it whenever I have a dream so I can better remember and even eventually control what goes on while I'm asleep. I just think it would be cool
1. Finish a good portion of the Dark "Contemporary".
DONE. I have made it past 100 hand written pages and I am past the halfway point of the story. I think I might need another notebook though.
2. Finish at least one book.
No comment. I did start like, five.
3. Start a bullet journal for writing stuff.
I have done this and I LOVE it.
4. Go on a hike/walk.
Al and I visited our friends in Pennsylvania over the weekend. We went hiking. I fell down a hill. Fun and bruises ensued.
5. Move up in cardio at the gym.
I got a little pushed back with this one because of everything going on and then I was sick for nearly two weeks. However, I had moved up before I got sick and I plan on getting back on track this month.
6. Continue looking at houses-------> DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED.
Still looking. Not sure how well I'm doing with the not getting discouraged part.
7. Only go out to eat once a week.
Most weeks, I achieve this lol.
8. Spend a few mornings each week or even take a break during work to do some sort of meditation.
I haven't been meditating, per se, but I have been journaling, particularly drawing mandalas in my journal. It's relaxing and it also helps me clear my head.
9. Spend time working on blog posts in advance.
I've been semi-doing this.
10. Finalize this year's release schedule!
I finally did it! Next week there's going to be a whoooooole post about all the books!
11. Listen to more audiobooks.
I've listened to pretty much half of six books. I don't know why I do this to myself.
12. Watch The Handmaid's Tale.
YESSSSS. If you aren't watching this do yourself a favor and do so!
13. Do something that's good for my creativity--go to a museum, a show, or something like that.
I didn't manage to get to anything like that, but my creativity has been off the charts lately from just writing more in general.
14. Write a VERY rough query letter for the Sci-fi book.
Haven't put it all together yet, but the main parts are there. Just gotta mash them together until they resemble something appealing.
15. Try to grow my audience more.
Slowly but surely, I have been doing this. It's a hard thing to do, but I'm confident I'll be gaining more followers across all my platforms once I start releasing regularly again.
